Gabriel Obertan Joins Manchester United

The French winger has left Girondins de Bordeaux to join Sir Alex Ferguson's squad on a four year deal.


Manchester United have secured the services of promising Girondins de Bordeaux winger Gabriel Obertan on a four year deal after the French 20-year-old agreed personal terms and passed his medical.Obertan becomes Sir Alex Ferguson's third summer signing, and the iron-willed Scot has claimed that the burgeoning forward is a player who he has been scouting for a number of years.

The player, who has received international caps at Under-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, and U-21 level, also expressed his delight at sealing a move to the Premier League champions.Regarding the coup, Ferguson told the club's official website, "Gabriel is a player we have tracked for a few years now, but because of his educational programme our efforts to get him here have always been delayed.

"We are delighted to get him now as he is an exciting prospect. We like to get young players and develop them, and we will see that in Gabriel over the next two years," he said.Obertan added, "I am very happy to join Manchester United. This is a big opportunity for me to play at such a great club. I am very excited to be here and I look forward to proving what I can do.

"Obertan, however, has joined the Old Trafford outfit with a slight injury, and will therefore be omitted from the club's immediate pre-season preparations. His transfer fee is yet to be disclosed.
